State Policy Engagement Plan
Topline Goals and Objectives: Disseminate, Develop, Defend
- Always place IB on equal policy footing with AP
- Insure high school reciprocity
- Manage and improve university recognition and credit
- Investigate potential budget action specific to IB
- Pursue administrative incentives for growing IB programs
- Explore external sources for funding to grow IB programs
- Maintain mutually beneficial relationship with IBO
Disseminate and Develop
- A) Continue building relationships with Legislators, and particularly committee staff:
-Education Committees
-Budget Committees
-Leadership (Speaker and Senate President pro Tempore education advisors)
-Other members, as dictated by connection to existing IB programs
-Recruit one or more “champions” to
- B) Maximize good news arising from IB programs
-Organize local celebrations with Legislators & Superintendents.
- C) Continue to build relationships with affiliation groups:
-Regularly share news, compare priorities, and build coalitions with the following:
-Association of CA School Administrators
-CA School Boards Association
-CA County Superintendents
-CA Teachers Association / CA Federation of Teachers
-CA Parent / Teachers Association
-Career & Technical Education groups
-University-related groups (American Council on Education, UC Board of Admissions
Relations with Schools, etc.)
- D) Continue to maintain working relationship with CDE and SBE
-pursue administrative incentives for IB
-Accountability System credit/acknowledgement
-School Recognition criteria/credit (Distinguished & Blue Ribbon Schools)
Defend
Closely monitor budget negotiations and legislation to determine potential threats to IB
programs and their expansion.
-Intervene and deploy available forces when/where necessary
-lobbyists, local relationships, leg champions & staff + allied groups
NOTE: A key component of this plan is dissemination and promotion of the CAWS Legislator Toolkit.
