Congratulations to Kathy Adrejko, sixth grade teacher at Hawthorne International Baccalaureate EIementary school and Michael Schneider, M.ED. Assistant Principal Curriculum and Instruction La Quinta High School for being selected to attend the 2018 IB Global Conference in San Diego.
Below is an excerpt from a letter Kathy sent CAWS highlighting her experience:
I am grateful to have been the recipient of the CAWS scholarship which enabled me to attend the IB Global Conference in San Diego for the first time this past July. It allowed me to immerse myself in important topics such as: today's millennial attributes, math strategies that promote inquiry and dialogic conversations, and transdisciplinary curriculum that transcends learning from our own backyards to future academic areas and personal growth experiences that will enrich students' lives forever.
From my observations as a sixth grade teacher, students are not only enlightened through the International Baccalaureate Programme, but also through their thinking and learning experiences which are enhanced by the rigorous and thorough units of study they have completed during their primary years at Hawthorne.
In the 2018-2019 school year, I plan to use the strategies and knowledge I gained at the conference throughout the IB units I will be working on with the students. In particular, I am excited to use the math tools obtained to broaden our current IB fields of study.
Thank you again for the terrific opportunity to attend the IB Global Conference; I know it will illuminate my teaching.
Thank you again.
