Academic Integrity Update for All Programmes, David Weiss, IBO

David Weiss, IBO Public Schools Head (US), recently held a roundtable for educators regarding Academic Integrity which focused on the use of AI by IB students. His meeting was designed to address concerns with the recent advancement of ChatGPT. Over 200 IB educators participated his sessions.

The current Academic Integrity Policy can be found on My IB under Academic Honesty. As you will note from David's attached presentation, key information is held within Appendices 5 and 6. Due to the number of concerns recently sent to IB on the topic of AI, they will be sending an additional update shortly so be sure to check your inboxes for this publication.

David suggests that if you have not already read the article from Matt Glanville, IB Director of Assessment, that you do so when possible.

The IB views this as an opportunity for collaboration between members of your entire School Community and suggests transparency of your school academic honesty policy with your district, staff, students and parents. This topic might provide the impetus to update your current school policy if it doesn't address the use of AI. Academic honesty and integrity discussions and lessons begin in the PYP and are integrated into all of our programmes. With that in mind David has requested that if you have any feedback, suggestions or best practice examples that you send them to him.

Thanks to each of you for bringing forward discussions on the value of honesty and integrity as well as transparency on current expectations from IB.

Warm regards,

Robin
