Dramatic Education Funding Cuts Proposed by House

The proposal would also pare back spending on teacher training, social emotional learning, supports for English language learners, and child care. Certain programs, including school safety and CTE, would avoid cuts under the proposal.

According to the Appropriations Committee Democrats, the GOP proposal would result in a 28% reduction in discretionary education spending over FY 2023. In contrast, the White House had recommended a nearly 14% increase in education funding.

It's important to note that the GOP bill is subject to further review and may undergo changes before finalization. The House Appropriations subcommittee overseeing education plans to vote on the proposal in the coming days. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and keep you updated on any further developments.
