Budget Committees Adopt State Budget Package - Updated Matrix, June 5, 2021

This early agreement means the Legislature will not convene a Conference Committee this year, skipping a step in the budget process when both houses meet, after adopting their own versions of the budget, to resolve outstanding issues.

Attached is an updated matrix comparing the Governor’s May Revision budget and the Legislature’s adopted agreement. The chart provides a general overview of the major education-related proposals and we expect additional details and dollar amounts to firm up as legislative trailer bill language is finalized and released in the upcoming days and weeks.

Attention now turns to negotiations between the Big 3 (Governor Gavin Newsom, Senate Pro Tem Toni Atkins, and Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon), as they work to reach a final deal ahead of the Legislature’s June 15th deadline. As you may be aware, the Legislature must pass a balanced budget by June 15th or they won’t be paid, which so far has been a great incentive.

We will continue to provide updates as the negotiations progress. If you have any questions, please reach out to any of us here at Capitol Advisors.

Best,

Caitlin
