Congratulations to Carole Mortl, CAWS Board New MYP Representative!!

I would like to extend an invitation to you to meet Carole and Elizabeth during our upcoming CAWS 2025 Fall Forum, Growing Global Learners: The IB Framework from TK to Career. This event will take place in Costa Mesa at the Orange County Department of Education on October 27, 2025. It promises to be an enriching opportunity for collaboration and engagement, where attendees can explore the International Baccalaureate framework and its application from transitional kindergarten through career readiness in California schools. We look forward to seeing you this Fall.

Warm regards,

From Carole:

In my capacity as a CAWS board member, I hope to pay this forward by sharing insights into developing strong IB school systems and structures, developing our IB networking communities, and advocating for dynamic, agentic engagement with the elements of the PYP program.

With nearly 30 years of experience in education, Carole Mortl has spent 23 years teaching 7th-grade world history and the past 7 years serving as the IB MYP Coordinator in the La Habra City School District. She is dedicated to building positive relationships with students and fostering a school culture rooted in the IB Learner Profile attributes, cultural awareness, and making the MYP accessible to all students. As MYP Coordinator, Carole has led professional development, collaborated with the Orange County Department of Education, and contributed to curriculum development by guiding teachers in designing meaningful IB units, refining the Community Service project, promoting Universal Design Learning (UDL), and supporting the transition to the IB mark grading system. She has participated in numerous IB conferences and CAWS workshops and now serves as a CAWS MYP Representative, where she looks forward to strengthening support networks for the regional MYP community.

Outside of her professional role, Carole is learning to play the hammered dulcimer and enjoys wild mushroom identification walks with her grandchildren and with the Los Angeles Mycology Club. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in History and Anthropology and a Master’s degree in Education.
