Concept-Based Learning - Unit Planning Virtual Events

To those who were interested in our work with concept-based unit planning I am providing the slides that were part of my presentation during the CAWS Fall Forum.

The positive response from participants during my breakout session has compelled CAWS to continue the work we started through three virtual meetings. Forum participants, as well as people who could not attend our Fall Forum, will have another opportunity on Monday, Dec. 4 to consider how best to create a unit so that aligns with concept-based unit planning guidelines.

Concept-based unit planning is at the center of the IB Framework and inquiry-based teaching. To help support you we are offering three sessions where CAWS board members and fellow IB teachers guide you through the process of transforming a standards-based unit into a concept-based unit (while staying aligned with standards). This is a great opportunity for PYP and MYP teachers to collaborate, work on their units, and receive constructive feedback. Don't miss out on this opportunity for support for your important work!

We recognize that concept-based unit planning can be challenging so we want to continue the momentum from the workshop and support each other in this work over the next few months. Be on the lookout for more information. Mark your calendars for the CAWS 2024 Spring Seminar, February 26 in San Diego as our agenda will offer several workshop based options.

I am looking forward to seeing you soon!
