It is time for Diploma Program schools to review and update their school “a-g” lists for 2022-2023. The UC CMP (Course Management Portal) will open February 1. The attached handout provides valuable information in this process. UC strongly recommends that schools finish the process before the UC application opens August 1. Errors on your “a-g” course list can disadvantage prospective UC and CSU applicants.

CDE recently released the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELO-P) Program Plan Guide, available here. 
 
According to CDE:
 
In this program plan, LEAs will describe program activities that support the whole child, and students’ social and emotional learning (SEL) and development. LEAs must operate the ELO-P pursuant to the requirements in California EC Section 46120, including the development of a program plan. The program plan needs to be approved by the LEA’s Governing Board in a public meeting and posted on the LEA's website.

High schoolers in California will be required to take an ethnic studies course in order to graduate, beginning in 2029-30. Assembly Bill 101, authored by Assemblyman Jose Medina, D-Riverside, passed both houses of the state Legislature Wednesday and is now headed to Gov. Gavin Newsom’s desk.

Governor Newsom issued an executive order this afternoon allowing recently retired teachers to return to service immediately for "short-term staffing shortages." 
 
The order waives various timeline requirements that usually prohibit credentialed retirees from reentering classrooms for six months.  Links on next page.

Capitol Advisors, on behalf of CAWS, succeeded in having IB named in the California A-G Completion Improvement Grant Program Trailer. This is critically important as this grant approves money for student fee waivers and IB Professional Development.

We wanted to make sure you were aware of the 2nd “Brokers of Expertise” webcast to spotlight five different district efforts to address some of the key priorities in the new Budget Act. Most of the emphasis of the work you will hear about is focused on behavior health and student wellbeing and issues for the coming year including staffing.

Following yesterday’s announcement by Legislative leadership that the Senate and Assembly had reached an early agreement on the Legislature’s proposed budget, the full budget committees in each house met late this afternoon and into the evening to formally adopt their respective proposals.

Diploma Program courses are program courses, and this webinar will cover specifics on adding program courses, including IB DP courses, to your school A-G list.
