ALL HIGH SCHOOL MYP/DP/CP SCHOOLS – A reminder that the deadline to
submit new courses or make any changes to your school’s UC A-G list is next
Monday, August 31.

After August 31, schools will need to wait until next year’s submission period to
add/delete/revise courses on their A-G lists.

Your school A-G course lists should accurately reflect actual course offerings for
each academic year. Errors on an A-G course list can disadvantage prospective
University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) applicants.

Learned helplessness is becoming more and more of a challenge in the post-pandemic world. Students are expecting teachers to do all the hard work while they watch. Inquiry-based pedagogy can only successfully combat the issue if students are set up for success in that type of environment. Otherwise, teachers quickly revert back to "Sit and git". So, let's chat. Come prepared with some ideas and be ready to get some more.

Join host Cynthia Ballheim, IBEN and President of the Ohio League of IB Schools for this interactive 60-minute session will explore how Upper Arlington High School in Columbus, Ohio has intentionally embedded the IB Learner Profile into the culture of the school, making it a meaningful part of students’ daily experiences rather than simply a list of attributes that hangs on a wall. Participants will discover practical strategies that help students understand, reflect on, and demonstrate the IB Learner Profile across classrooms, extracurricular activities, and school-wide events.

What to Expect

In this roundtable participants will have an opportunity to share ideas, ask questions, and reflect on their plans for the school year teaching DP Mathematics Analysis & Approaches.  Specifically, we will focus on the structure of the year, planning for the Internal Assessment, focusing on inquiry in our classrooms, and what to consider in the fall to prepare students for IB exams next May.  Those who sign up will have an opportunity to share their needs ahead of the roundtable session so we can focus our time.  In addition, we will take some time for impromptu questions.  Math AI teachers are welcome but the focus on the year’s plan part will be on AA.

Erica is an experienced PYP teacher in the Beaverton School District in Oregon and an active member of the IB Educator Network, IBEN since 2013. She is passionate about supporting teachers, coordinators and school leaders in implementing the PYP. Erica is oneof our top CAWS workshop trainers and we are pleased to invite you to join us next week as we begin the new school year together.

Following fast-moving negotiations in Sacramento today, the Legislature has passed an agreement that could reshape the landscape for some local school funding measures.



Under the agreement, the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association has agreed to withdraw its ballot initiative (the Local Taxpayer Protection Act) in exchange for the Legislature placing a new constitutional amendment on the November ballot.

A reminder to schools of the upcoming deadline to submit courses to UC for A-G approval.

The primary submission phase closes June 30. It is recommended that courses be submitted to the UC CMP (Course Management Portal) during the primary submission phase to ensure that approved courses are listed in the UC application when it opens on August 1. The CMP will reopen August 1-31 for an additional submission period. After August 31, users will need to wait until next year’s submission period to add courses to their lists.

Today it was announced that Legislative leaders and Governor Newsom have agreed to a ballot measure that, if passed by voters in November, would increase the cap in the state’s largest savings account (the Budget Stabilization Account) from 10% to 20% of general fund tax revenue.

In all our years in education, we've never seen a moment quite like this one. Between geopolitical pressures, wellbeing challenges and the ongoing work of post-pandemic recovery, schools already have full plates. And now AI arrives too, with its wave of tools, promises, pressure and panic.

The Senate and Assembly Education Committees met this week, with the Senate Committee working through a long agenda – more than thirty bills. A handful of those bills are of particular interest to local educational agencies (LEAs). Specifically, bills dealing with paid pregnancy leave, mandatory sunset dates on new reporting requirements, and comprehensive school safety plans all moved forward this week.

The UC A-G Course Management Portal is open for course submissions and updates. This is the time to work with your school and district to ensure your school A-G list accurately reflects your high school Middle Years Program, Diploma Program and Career Program course offerings for 2026-2027.
